اسمها "غزوة"، وهذا يقول الكثير، حتى أنه يمكن اعتبار هذا الاسم عنوانًا موازيًا للرواية، وعتبة مهمة للدخول إلى النص. سُميت بهذا الاسم تيمُنًا بميلادها في ذكرى انتصار غزوة بدر، لكنها ستجد نفسها قد أُلقي بها في مجتمع يعيش هزائمه الخاصة بلا توقف. يوحي اسم غزوة بالقتال، ويوحي بالأمل. لكننا نكتشف أن هذا القتال قد يكون دفاعًا عن أبسط حقوق المرء في الحياة، عن احتياجاته النفسية والجسدية الأولية. لا يخبرنا اسم "غزوة"، لكن حكايتها تخبرنا.
تشهر غزوة حواسها القوية في وجه العالم، كاشِفة قناعه الزائف الذي يختبئ خلفه. ترى الجميع على حقيقتهم، ظلال من المصائر تتبعهم وتشير إلى الطرق التي سوف يتخذونها في حياتهم. ما يخفونه عن الجميع، وما تخفيه عنهم الأقدار، تراه غزوة في هيئة يختلط فيها الحلم بالنبوءة. يتخفى البشر أحيانا خلف الحب، والسلطة، والشرف، وحتى العهر. يؤمن الجميع بقدرة الصورة الظاهرة على إخفاء ذواتهم. رغم أننا نكتشف -بفضل غزوة- أن هذا غير صحيح.
ربما تحاول الرواية الإجابة عن السؤال الصعب: كيف يرى السجناء سجانيهم، وكيف ينظر القتلى إلى قاتليهم، وهل يمكن لهذه النظرة أن تتحول إلى سلاح مضاد. هل يمكن أن يمنح القدر الضحايا بعضًا من كشفه لتعرية من سلبوا منهم حيواتهم وحطموا كل ما أحبوه في هذا العالم. كما تتساءل الرواية بيأس على لسان غزوة "ما فائدة معرفتي بما سوف يحدث؟ تلك الخيالات المجنونة، ما فائدتها؟ كل من أُحذّره لا يصدقني ويمضي إلى مصيره بشجاعة". لقد حذرت البعض مرارًا مما هو مقدم عليه، لكنه تجاهل ما قالت ومضى إلى مصيره. هل صيرورة القدر أقوى من المعرفة، أم أن البشر تلاميذ خائبون لا أكثر.
