يقول ابن بسام (1275 - 1346 هـ) :
«وفيها عدا غزو من مطير كبيرهم (هايف) ولد هزاع بن شقير قرب سوق الشيوخ على الظفير، ووجدهم منتذرين بهم، ولما أكانوا عليهم قتلوا الظفير تقريبا 72 من مطير ومنهم ولد هزاع وولد ابن مشل وذبحوهم كلهم.»
