ما بين دفتي الكتاب مجموع مقالات تتحدث عن تاريخ لبنان الحديث وضعها "جورج الراسي" في مطلع السبعينات ونٌشرت في عدد من الصحف اللبنانية والعربية والأجنبية. جاءت كما يقول صانعها: صورة فوتوغرافية لما كنا عليه، وكانت عليه الحال، هي أسئلة من الماضي ربما. لكنها مطروحة اليوم وغداً. وأضاف ما أردته في هذا العمل هو تثبيت الزمن. فهو ثابت بالفعل منذ أمد. "التيارات الإنعزالية في الفكر اللبناني" ما زالت حيّة تُرزق، وتؤسس للحرب المقبلة. "الصراع الثقافي على لبنان" ما زال على أشده، بل ازداد ضراوة. "الرفض في الكنيسة العربية" كوةٌ فُتحت في بنية الفكر الديني، يحاولون إغلاقها منذ ربع قرن. أما بقية فصول الكتاب، وقفات عند بعض الأحداث، عند بعض المحطات، عند بعض الأصوات، من الماضي ومن المستقبل، للذكرى والتاريخ.
يقسم الكاتب عمله إلى ثماني فصول تشكل محطات مختلفة في تاريخ لبنان منذ قيام دولة لبنان الكبير، وصولاً إلى مرحلة السبعينات. نذكر من عناوين المقالات: "في عهد الأمير فخر الدين: كانت فلسطين جزءاً من لبنان"، "جاك كولان: الحركة النقابية في لبنان" ، "محطات تاريخية" ، "مأثرة الإغتراب" ، "هنا كان لآبائكم وطن" ... الخ.
