تعاني المكتبة العربية عامة من قصور في توثيق الكتابات العربية عبر التاريخ، وبالأخص كتابات النساء التي لم يخصها الباحثون بعنايتهم الكافية، وغالباً ما أصابها النقص في المعلومات وعدم الدقة في إيرادها. ويأتي هذا الكتاب ليزود المكتبة العربية ببليوغرافيا لكاتبات لبنانيات.
يتناول هذا الكتاب ما كتبته اللبنانيات ما بين 1850-1950. وإذا بدأت إحداهن كتابتها قبل 1950 ثم تابعت نشاطها، وأورد أيضاً ما ألفته بعد هذا التاريخ وجاء الكتاب ضمن قسمين. في القسم الأول: ثبت بأسماء كل الكاتبات حسب ترتيبها الأبجدي، مع نبذة عن سيرة كل منهن وسنتي الولادة والوفاة، حيث أمكن الاهتداء إلى ذلك. وبعد كل سيرة أوردت قائمة بكل ما كتبت الكاتبة مع تصنيف هذه الكتابات: رواية، قصة، شعر، رحلة، سيرة، مقالة، إلخ... وذكر دار النشر ومكانه وتاريخه، إذا كان كتاباً، أو اسم الصحيفة مع تاريخها وعددها والصفحات التي وردت فيها المقالة أو الأقصوصة. وأتبع بأسماء المراجع التي استقيت منها هذه المعلومات.
أما القسم الثاني: فيتناول كلاً من هذه الفنون على حدة. تحت عنوان "الرواية" مثلاً، ذكر بالترتيب الأبجدي أسماء الكاتبات مع سنتي الولادة والوفاة، وفقط الروايات التي كتبن، مع اسم الناشر، ومكان النشر وتاريخه. واتبعت هذه الطريقة نفسها فيما يتعلق بكل من الفنون الأخرى. أما المقالات التي نشرت في الصحف والمجلات، فأشير أيضاً إلى اسم الكاتبة وحده مع سنتي الولادة والوفاة، ثم أورد اسم الصحيفة أو المجلة التي نشرت القصة أو المقالة، مع السنة والعدد والصفحات التي ظهرت فيها القصة أو المقالة.
بعد هذا القسم كان هناك فهرساً بأسماء الأعلام، وفهرساً آخر بأسماء المؤلفات كلها، حسب الترتيب الأبجدي، وبصرف النظر عن الفن الذي تنتمي إليه، مع الإشارة، بعد كل عنوان، إلى نوع هذا الفن.2
