يقع هذا البحث في إطار تطوير وضع المرأة استناداً إلى حقوق الإنسان الأساسية وضرورة تمتع كل إنسان بها دون أي تمييز بسبب الجنس أو الدين أو اللون أو العنصر أو اللغة أو الأصل أو الثروة أو أي وضع آخر. من هذا المنطلق جاء عمل المحامية "لور مغيزل" في هذا الكتاب الذي ترصد فيه الأحكام القانونية المتعلقة بوضع المرأة في القانون اللبناني، محاولة إلقاء الضوء عليها وذلك من خلال تقسيمها مادة الكتاب إلى أربعة أبواب عالجت الموضوعات التالية: الباب الأول الحقوق السياسية وقد ضمنتها أحكام الدستور والانتخابات والبلدية والمخاتير والمجالس الاختيارية والوظائف العامة والجنسية، الباب الثاني: الأحكام المتعلقة بالأهلية ومنها الأهلية المدنية، الأهلية للشهادة في الشؤون العقارية، أحكام قانون الموجبات والعقود المتعلقة بالضمان المعقود على وفاة امرأة متزوجة، الحق في التنقل ومغادرة البلاد، الإرث والوصية، الأهلية التجارية للمرأة المتزوجة وحقوق زوجة المفلس. الباب الثالث: الحقوق الاقتصادية والاجتماعية ومنها الأجر والتعويض العائلي ونهاية الخدمة وتدابير حماية النساء المستخدمات عامة والأمهات خاصة، الباب الرابع: الأحكام الجزائية المتعلقة بما يسمى خطأ جرائم الشرف، الزنا، وسائل منع الحمل والإجهاض، البغاء...
لقد بحثت المؤلفة "لور مغيزل" في التشريع اللبناني على ضوء الإعلان العالمي لحقوق الإنسان، والاتفاقيات الدولية المتممة له لا سيما تلك المتعلقة بالمرأة الصادرة عن منظمة الأمم المتحدة ومنظمة العمل الدولية ومنظمة العمل العربية، وقد أوردت نصوص بعض هذه الاتفاقيات في الباب الخامس تسهيلاً للمراجعة كما أجريت في معظم المواضيع مقارنة مع تشريعات عربية وأجنبية تتيح تحديد وضع المرأة في لبنان بالنسبة لوضعها في عدد من البلدان العربية والأجنبية.
