خلال الفترة من 9نوفمبر- 7ديسمبر 2005، جرت انتخابات الفصل التشريعى الثامن لمجلس لشعب على ثلاث مراحل وست جولات فى ظل حراك سياسيى غير مسبوق تصاحب مع تعديل المادة 76 من الدستور ليصبح اختيار رئيس الجمهورية بطريقة الاقتراع العام المباشر بدلاً من الاستفتاء، وإجراء أول انتخابات رئاسية تنافسية فى تاريخ البلاد بين عشرة مرشحين حزبيين- من بينهم الرئيس مبارك مرشح الحزب الوطنى الذى كان الفوز من نصيبه- جابوا مختلف ربوع الوطن لعرض برامجهم الانتخابية ودعوة جموع الناخبين إلى الوقوف بجانبهم والتصويت لهم، وإلحاح القضاة من خلال ناديهم على توفير كافة الضمانات الكافلة للإشراق القضائى الكامل والحقيقى على انتخابات مجلس الشعب.
