كانت انتخابات 2005 البرلمانية من أكثر الانتخابات المعبرة عن الواقع المصرى إذا أشرفت عليها لجنة عليا برئاية وزير العدل وراقبها بعض منظمات المجتمع المدنى كما حملت الانتخابات درجة أكبر من الحرية فى مجال الدعاية والإعلان عن البرامج الانتخابية لمختلف الأحزاب والقوى السياسية بما فى ذلك جماعة الإخوان المسلمين ولعل النتائج التى اسفرت عنها الانتخابات هى الأكثر دلالة على تطور البيئة التى جرت فيها الانتخابات إذا تخطت المعارضة فى تلك الانتخابات حاجز الـ 100 مقعد بينما حاز الحزب الوطنى الديمقراطى على 141 مقعدا فقط.
