كتاب يتناول بعمق فلسفي معالم التجربة الصوفية في الحضارة الإسلامية على وجه الخصوص قياساً إلى الحضارات القديمة والثقافات المختلفة السابقة على الإسلام، ويركز على تجارب الأولياء في الإسلام : تجربة البسطامي والحلاج والغزالي وابن عربي وابن سبعين وغيرهم من أولياء الإسلام، وينقد بشدة تخريج "ولتر ستيس" للتجارب الصوفية وهو بالقياس إلى التصوف الإسلامي تخريج ضعيف، ويتناول التجربة الصوفية واللغة، ويحلل اصطلاح الجمع المفروق لتفسير وحدة الوجود في ضوء التجربة الصوفية في الإسلام خلافاً لتفسير ولتر ستيس لها في ضوء الهوية في الاختلاف.
