يأبى قومٌ على التصوّف أن يكون مادة قابلة للمعالجة ، وينزعون عنه القابلية للنظر والتأمل ، بالنظر إلى طبيعته العملية التي ينحو بها السلوك عن التجريد إلى الممارسة ، كل هذا صحيح ولكنه جزء من التجربة الصوفية لا تكتفي به ، لأن التصوف ، شأنه شأن التجربة الدينية في عمومها ، لا يستدبر العقل ولا يستهين به .
اقتضت هذه المشكلة من أكثر من كاتب ، وإن كانوا قلة ، أن ينظر في الأساس النظري للتصوف وأن يقف على مقوّماته ، من غير الروح ، وأن يشرح الأصول التي قام عليها ويستدلّ عليها بما يقربها إلى الفهم ، وفي كل ذلك تأكيد للقابلية التي نتحمس لها وندافع عنها .
