كان هناك رجل لديه قصور وفيلات وألواح ذهبية وفضية وأثاث فاخر مطرز وعربات مطلية بالذهب من الداخل والخارج.
لكن هذا الرجل ، لسوء الحظ كان له لحية زرقاء: وهذا الشيء يجعله مخيفًا للغاية فلم تكن هناك امرأة أو فتاة تراه الا وتهرب من الخوف بمجرد رؤيته.
وكان من بين جيرانه سيدة عظيمة ، لها ابنتان وطلب واحدة منهما لتكون زوجته ، تاركًا والدتهن لتختار له أيهما تريد أن تعطيه له: لكن الفتيات لم يرغبن في ذلك وقاما بمراوغته من واحدة إلى أخرى ، ولم يجدا طريقة لحل مشكلة الزواج من الرجل ذو اللحية الزرقاء. وكان أكثر ما أثار اشمئزازهما هو أن هذا الرجل كان قد تزوج من عدة نساء من قبل ولم يكن من الممكن معرفة ما يحدث لهن .
