يندرج هذا الكتاب ضمن السلسلة المسامة "قضايا نقدية ومالية" وهو يعالج بإسهاب كافة المسائل النقدية على المستوى الدولي، وللإحاطة بالموضوع من كافة جوانبه توزع هذا المؤلف على محاور ثلاثة. خصص الحور الأول لدراسة ميزان المدفوعات بمختلف تفاصيله وتشعباته. في حين أن المحور الثاني، المترابط عضوياً مع المحور الأول، كان قد كرس لمعالجة قضايا الصرف (عمليات الصرف، سعر الصرف، سوق الصرف، أنظمة الصرف الثابتة والعائمة والهجينة)، وأخيراً أتى المحور الثالث ليدعم المقاربة النظرية بمقاربة تجريبية على الصعيد الدولي. هذا المحور الأخير خصص لدراسة تطور النظام النقدي الدولي. وأخيراً، ونظراً للدور المحوري للدولار في النظام النقدي فلقد أفرد المؤلف فصل خاص لدراسة الدولار من حيث كونه نقد دولي، من جهة، وأداة توظيف دولية في إطار اليورو أسواق، من جهة ثانية. وفي هذا السياق تمّ التطرق إلى بعض الأدوات المالية الجديدة التي يغلب عليها الطابع النقدي.
يتوجه هذا الكتاب أساساً إلى المتخصصين في العلوم الاقتصادية وفي إدارة الأعمال، وإلى العاملين في الحقل المالي والمصرفي. كذلك فهو يقدم مادة مفيدة إلى كل قارئ يسعى لمعرفة أوسع في المجال النقدي الدولي.
يأتي هذا الكتاب ثانياً في سلسلة تعالج القضايا النقدية والمالية. تلك السلسلة تشتمل على مؤلف ثالث سيصدر لاحقاً، ويخصص لدراسة البورصات والأسواق المالية العالمية. وعلى غرار المؤلَّف الأول "النقود والسياسات النقدية الداخلية" فقد صيغ هذا المؤلَّف بأسلوب مبسَّط مع الحرص الشديد على مراعاة الدقة العلمية، وما الأمثلة المتعددة، التي أدرجت، إلا بغية فهم أعمق للموضوعات المطروحة.
