لماذا هذا الكتاب؟ يقول "إميل بجاني" إنها الصحافة لأن من نافذتها أطلت بواكيره وكانت منبر مواده والمواضيع. أما كيف ومتى تمّ هذا اللقاء؛ فتلك القضايا حكايتها، ولتلك الآراء حكايتها، وهاك الحكايتين، فالمؤلف قانوني متبحرّ ورجل ثقافة واسعة؛ وقد استطاع في كتابه هذا أن يضفي على القانون مذاق الطرفة الحلوة والأدب الأنيق؛ فهو يؤمن بأن الصحافة رسالة وكذلك المحاماة؛ فلماذا لا تلتقيان في عمل يجمعهما، وعلى طريقة تتجاوران وتتآلفان؟ وهذا الكتاب جاء استجابة ورداً على قضايا أثارها القراء فألف كتابه معالجاً لقضاياهم بفك عقدها بأسلوب واضح وبسيط لا ينفّر القارئ العادي، فيشعر بالغربة في عالم ليس عالمه، ولا يأنفه رجل الاختصاص بل يهمز فضول ويدغدغ فيه غريزة الاستطلاع.
فقصص هذا الكتاب أشبه بحكايات في القانون، أو هو القانون يمر خاطف الخطى في تلك الحكايات، ميزتها أنها قّدَّت من سجل الواقع، من واقع الحياة، كخبير في جريدة، كحادثة برسم قلم التحرير... ولأن الفكرة كانت بأن يتجاوز القانون والحكاية، فلقد جاء الأسلوب الصحافي هو الغالب في الأسئلة والعناوين، ثم استعاد القانون دوره مبسطاً قريب المنال سهل البلوغ في الأجوبة والحلول. إن في تلك الحكايات صوراً من الحياة مما لا يندرس مع الأيام. وهي، في ظن كاتبها، خليقة بأن تستوقف لا رجل القانون تستفرده في صومعته بين أوراقه وكتبه، بل القارئ عموماً، إذا كان ممن يستهويهم لون الحبر وصوت الكلمات على القرطاس.
