قناديل العارفين، عبارة عن إشراقات روحية استثارتها أسئلة ومشاكل مرت بشاب متحمس للسعي نحو الكمال وإصلاح نفسه ومجتمعه. وقد صدرت هذه النفحات القدسية من قلب السيد الصدر وهو في قمة تأملاته وتفرغه وخلوته ونضجه الروحي. والكتاب يتضمن رسائل متبادلة بين السيد الصدر الثاني، والشيخ محمد اليعقوبي، وفيه عشرة قناديل، كل قنديل هو أجوبة لتساؤلات وحلول يطرحها التلميذ على أستاذه، وقد جاءت بمثابة دروس علمية وأخلاقية وتربوية قيمة، فكأنها وصفات ناجحة للباحثين عن طريق الكمال والترقي بالعلم والمعرفة، ويعود تاريخ هذه الرسائل إلى عشرين عاماً خلت وقد كتبت في ظروف صعبة.
ويتضمن الكتاب أيضاً أفكاراً تعود إلى كتابين الشيخ محمد اليعقوبي (دور ألأئمة في الحياة الإسلامية) و(نظرة في فلسفة الأحداث) وقد شملت المراسلات كل الاتجاهات التي تناولها المؤلف في هذين الكتابين، ويضم هذا الكتاب أيضاً ملحقاً ببعض الرسائل العامة للشهيد الصدر وهي رسائل لم تكن أجوبة أو تعليقات على أسئلة أو أفكار بعثت إليه أو أنها فقرات تصلح أن تكون مواضيع مستقلة.
أستطيع القول أنه لا أحد يستطيع معرفة أبعاد شخصية السيّد الشهيد الصدر الثاني ومكنون سرّه وفلسفته في الحياة التي أصبحت فيما بعد أساساً ومنطلقاً لحركته الإصلاحية الرائدة إلّا إذا قرأ كتاب (قناديل العارفين) الذي هو عبارة عن إشراقات روحية طاهرة ونقيّة استثارتها أسئلة ومشاكل مرّت بشاب متحمّس للسعي نحو الكمال وإصلاح نفسه ومجتمعه.
