يجمع الكتاب بين ثلاثة من كبار فلاسفة العلم المعاصرين هم "جوتلوب فريجة" و"برتراند راسل" و"كارل بوبر" وهؤلاء الثلاثة يتفقون في أمور كثيرة تجاه الغرض والخاص بأن العلم هو المعين الأساسي للفلسفة ومباحثها حالياً. ومن مظاهر الاتفاق التي جاءت تفاصيلها في ثنايا هذا الكتاب في: 1-تعاظم دور الملكة النقدية لدى ثلاثتهم، 2-التقدير التام من جانب الفلاسفة الثلاثة لما اعتبره المؤلف ملامح للعلم المعاصر تجاه التطور الذي أصاب طبيعة المادة، وعلاقة العقل بالجسد في صورتها الجديدة، وطبيعة الإدراك الحسي والتمثلات الذهنية، واشتراك ثلاثتهم في الاستفادة من نتائج نظريات العلم المعاصر، 3-اقتراح كل فيلسوف من بين الثلاثة بديلاً ناصعاً واضحاً لما رفضه.
وقد جاء الكتاب ضمن أبواب ثلاثة. خصص المؤلف لكل واحد من هؤلاء الفلاسفة باباً. خصص الباب الأول للفيلسوف "جوتلوب فريجة" حياته وأعماله، ثم لما جاء عنده في تقويم الرياضيات، ومفاهيم الأعداد، وطبيعة العدد ووجود الأعداد عن فريجة. ودار الباب الثاني حول الفيلسوف "برتراند راسل" حياته وفلسفته وتطور آرائه في الاستقراء، ومشكلة الاستقراء عنده وحلولها، والعلية عند "راسل" ومفهوم المصادرات عنده. وأما الباب الثالث فقد جاء حول الفيلسوف "كارل بوبر" حياته وأعماله ومنهجه العلمي والنظرية العلمية عنده ونظريته في المعرفة، كما تطرق الحديث إلى النزعة التطورية التي اتسم بها وإلى ما جاء عنده في عالم المعرفة الموضوعية وأخيراً فلسفته. وكان هدف المؤلف من عمله هذا أن يطّلع القارئ العام وأهل الاختصاص في آن واحد على إسهام مميز قام به ثلاثة من كبار الفلاسفة في العصر الراهن.
