تمثل عملية التقويم جانباً مهماً من جوانب عملية التعليم، ذلك أن التقويم هو العملية التي يقوم الفرد أو الجماعة بها لمعرفة مدى النجاح أو الفشل في بلوغ الأهداف العامة التي يتضمنها المنهج أو البرنامج. وأن الاتجاه الأكثر تطبيقاً لتقويم كفايات المعلمين هو تقويم قدراتهم السلوكية في أثناء العمل، إذ تظهر القدرات الفعالة لهم في المواقف العملية.
ولذلك فالتقويم يبين ما إذا حصل المعلم على مستويات الأداء المناسبة المكونة للبرنامج أم لا. فإذا حقق مستوى النجاح فلا بد من الانتقال إلى المرحلة اللاحقة. وهكذا يكون التقويم عملية مستمرة طوال سير البرنامج التدريسي، وليس هي عملية ختامية.
في هذا الإطار تأتي الدراسة التي بين يدينا حيث تهتم بدراسة موضوع تقويم الأداء لمعلمي أدب الأطفال والقواعد النحوية، وذلك على ضوء الكفايات التعليمية.
