لو لم تكن بغداد هي رمز العنفوان الإسلامي ورمز الإمبراطورية المترامية الأطراف والتي حكمت العالم زهاء خمسمائة سنة، لما كانت الهدف الأول لأمريكا، ومن ثم بقية العواصم الإسلامية (لا سمح الله).
إن أحد الأسباب المهمة وراء اجتياح أمريكا بغداد ليس النفط وحده، وليس موقع بغداد وجاراتها وحده السبب وإنما تحطيم الرمز المعنوي للمسلمين حيث يتم اجتياح عاصمة الإمبراطورية وسحقها، وهولاكو لم يستلم الخزائن والدفائن معاً فحسب وإنما استلم زمام إمبراطورية الإسلام لكي لا تقوم له قائمة.
