"بغداد: ذكريات ومشاهدات" كتاب للعلاّمة السوري الدمشقي "علي الطنطاوي" يضم مقالات متنوعة تمثل رحلة الكاتب في هذه الحياة. وتبدأ من بغداد. ذهب علي الطبطاوي إلى العراق في عام 1936، وقد درس أولاً في الثانوية المركزية في بغداد، ثم في ثانويتها الغربية ودار العلوم الشرعية في الأعظمية، وبقي في العراق إلى سنة 1939. وقد تركت تلك الفترة في نفسه ذكريات لم ينسها، وأحب بغداد حباً كبيراً يتجلى في كثير من سطور هذه السيرة العطرة.
يقول علي الطنطاوي في مقدمة الطبعة الجديدة 2007: ما تقرأونه في هذا الكتاب كُتب قبل أكثر من خمسين سنة، مَن كان يومئذٍ إبن عشر سنين صار الآن فوق الستين، فمن لم ويبلغ هذه السن فلا يحكم عليه بذوق زمانه بل بميزان ذلك الزمان، فإذا لم تدركوه فسلوا عنه من أدركه وعاش فيه (...) أين مني تلك الأيام؟ ماذا أجد – إن ذهبت – من بقاياها، من أريجها، من عطرها، من أنقاضها، من آثارها ؟ ...".
هكذا يبدأ الطنطاوي بالحديث عن بغداد، التي أحبها حبّه لبلده فحفظ لها من جميل الذكريات سائلاً الله أن يرده إليها.
تتنوع مقالات الكتاب وتنتقل من مكان إلى مكان ومن زمان إلى آخر وكأنها عرض سريع لتاريخ بغداد من أقدم أيامها حتى زمن صدور الكتاب. وتتضمن مشاهدات الكاتب وهو في العراق، مثل مثالات: "من دمشق إلى بغداد" و"سر من رأى" و "على إيوان كسرى" و "ثورة دجلة" و "صورة" و "بغداد في يوم غازي" ؛ ومن المقالات ما كتبه الطنطاوي في ذكرياته عن بغداد بعد فراقها بسنين مثل: "من ذكريات بغداد" و "يوم من أيام بغداد" و "ثورة تموز في العراق".
