يستذكر نسيم رجوان الجالية اليهودية التي افتقدها في بغداد، وقد نشأ في كنفها منذ عشرينات القرن الماضي حتى العام 1951 عند مغادرته العراق، تسعة عشر فصلاً متدرجة بعناية فائقة ينتقل فيها بالحديث عن الحياة في بغداد القديمة، المكان الذي يحنّ إليه، وعن قبيلة رجوان، ثم بداياته في العائلة وتنقلاتها، بعدها يدير وجهته صوب المدارس والصداقات وطبيعة التدريس، ثم يفرد صفحات لأوضاع العراق السياسية في ظل الحكم الملكي وتأثيراتها على الأدب والثقافة.
الفصول الثلاثة الأخيرة خصصها للخوض في مسألة التخلص، قبيل مغادرته العراق، من مكتبته العامرة بأرقى الكتب باللغتين العربية والإنكليزية، ونهاية الجالية اليهودية... صوت آخر، فاعل ومؤثر، يسرد مروية الحياة العراقية.
