يحتل إسم الشاعر جميل صدقي الزهاوي الصدارة في تاريخ الأدب العربي الحديث، فقد شغل النقاد والباحثين والدارسين، ردحاً من الزمن، فألفوا فيه الكتب، ودرسوا حياته، وعملوا على تحليل فنه وشعره وأدبه، إلا أنهم لم يجمعوا على رأي واحد فيه، بل ذهبوا مذاهب شتى، ولعل مرد تضارب آراء النقاد، واختلاف نظراتهم في تحليل وتقييم علمه وأدبه، يعود بالدرجة الأولى إلى وفرة إنتاجه وتنوعه، فهو لم يقصر جهوده على حقول الشعر، ورياض الأدب، بل اقتحم ميدان الفلسفة والفلك والطبيعيات، وألف في كل منها، وناظر رجالها وجادل أقطابها ... فلا غرو إذا وجدنا النقاد يختلفون في النظرة إلى نتاجه. وهو سيتم عرضه في هذا الكتاب عن طريق الكاتب "عبد الحميد الرشودي" الذي سوف يقف على بعض الدراسات والمقالات والآراء التي تنتصر للزهاوي وترفع من شأنه، كما قام بجمع المقالات التي تنقصه وتنكر عليه علمه وأدبه لكي يكون الكتاب جامعاً، شاملاً ما للزهاوي وما عليه، حيث أودعه المؤلف مجمل آراء وأقوال مختلف النقاد من عرب وترك وفرنسيين وروس وألمان وغيرهم بالإضافة إلى (رسائله) إلى الأستاذ أحمد محمد عيش، ورسالة الخط الجديد، ورسالة الحمام للقلاّب، وراسلة الخيل وسباقها، ورسالة الدفع العام والظواهر الطبيعية والفلكية وغيرها. كما كرّس المؤلف مكاناً في الكتاب للمدائح والمراثي التي قيلت فيه، لا سيما المراثي التي تُليت في الحفل التأبيني الكبير الذي أقيم بمناسبة مرور عام على وفاته. وأخيراً نبذة عن (آثار الزهاوي) العلمية والأدبية والفلسفية.
