هذه رسائل شاعر عاش حياة مليئة بالشعر وبالصراع الفكري كما كانت حياته صراع من أجل أن يكون الإنسان، في عصره، في موقع أكثر تقدماً واستجابة للحياة. ولذلك فهي، إن لم تكن تؤلف جزءً مهماً من أدب الرصافي فإنها، بلا شك، تشكل "وثائق أدبية" تجسد مواقف الرجل وترسم آفاق تطلعه وواقع علاقته بعصره: شخصيات، ورجال فكر وقلم، وحياة بمعطيات كثيرة وكبيرة، فهي، بهذا، صورة من صور الحياة والتفكير لرجل موقف.
وإذا كانت هذه "الرسائل" قد ظلت مطوية مع بعض المطوي من تراث الرصافي الفكري، فإنها اليوم وبجهد الباحث القدير الأستاذ عبد الحميد الرشودي، تخرج في وصرتها هذه، مشكلة إضافة جديدة إلى مكتبة الرصافي... وقد حرص مقدمها على تقديمها بالصورة العلمية التي تحلها مكانتها بين "كتب الرسائل" في أدبنا العربي الحديث-على قلتها وأهميتها.
وهذه "الرسائل" بما تقدم من دقائق حياة كاتبها، تضه أمام قارئها العديد من حقائق تلك الحياة التي عاشها شاعر ومفكر كان له دوره الشعري والفكري والسياسي في الحياة في النصف الأول من هذا القرن، بما كان له من شعره وفكره ومواقفه من جرأة بلغا ذروتها في كثير مما كتب وقال، فبلغ درجة عالية من الشجاعة العقلية التي علمته الصبر والثبات في واقع حياة عرف منها، أكثر ما عرف: استبدادها معه، وقوتها عليه..
وهي، إلى جانب هذا كله، جزء من تراث ثقافي وفكري لنا أن نتعامل معه بما هو جدير به من اهتمام... فهي "وثائق" ولكنها وثائق قيم حياة ومبادئ فكر كان الرصافي حريصاً على تأكيدها في ما كتب.
