تأخذ رسائل الرصافي أهمية خاصة، لأنها تؤكد على الأفكار والمواقف التحررية التي نجدها في شعره وفي خطاباته ومداخلاته الشهيرة في البرلمان العراقي على مدى سنوات.
وحملت رسالته إلى أهم معاصريه من الأدباء والشعراء العرب حوارات ساخنة عن أهم القضايا الفكرية والإجتماعية والأدبية الساخنة.
فقد بث الرصافي في بعض رسائله شكواه مما يكابد من جور السلطان وتنكر الزمان وأسلوبه في رسائله متفاوت فهو حين يكتب إلى العلماء والأدباء وذوي الرأي كعبد القادر المغربي وطه الراوي وبشارة الخوري يصطنع أسلوباً أدبياً عالياً وربما عمد إلى إستعمال بعض الغريب النافر بين مفرداته مثل (اعتقد) و(الطخارير) و(مسلنقون) على سبيل المماحكة والمفاكهة أما حين يكتب إلى غير هؤلاء فهو يجري على السليقة فلا تكلف في أسلوبه ولا تعسف.

وثمة ظاهرة أخرى نلمسها في رسائله وهي تواضعه وعدم إستنكافه من الإستفسار عن بعض الوقائع التاريخية أو المسائل الفقهية والكلامية وحتى النحوية بسبب عدم وجود مكتبة لديه يرجع إليها أو لأن تقادم الأيام قد أنساه تفاصيلها ولم يعد يذكر إلا مجملها كما هو الحال مع طه الراوي وعبد الجليل آل جميل والشيخ قاسم القيسي ومصطفى علي.
وسيقف القارئ في هذا الكتاب على الرصافي كاتباً فصيح العبارة بليغ الأسلوب وهو يحاور أولياءه أو يجادل خصومه وقد أرسل قلمه من غير تعمل أو تكلف فقد وفق إلى الجمع بين صناعتي المنظوم المنثور ولا شك أن في الذين جمعوا بين هذين الفنين قليل منهم والرصافي من هذه القلة.
