كثيراً ما تشكل الحياة العملية للكاتب مرجعاً يمتاح منه مادة أولية لكتاباته، يعيد تشكيلها في النوع الأدبي الذي يريد، وهو ما نقرأه في رواية الكاتب الدكتور عبد اللطيف يتيم المعنونة (سُلطة المال) وقد استمد مادتها من أحداث ووقائع صادفها خلال حياته المهنية كطبيب ووقف على علاجها، وهي في معظمها حالات حقيقية أضاف إليها عناصر من الخيال، ويغلب عليها الطابع الدرامي في القص؛ كاشفاً للقارئ عن دور سلطة المال في الحياة والصراع بين الخير والشر سواء أكان ذلك على المستوى المحلي قرية (كفر التفاح) حيث تجري احداث الرواية، أم على مستوى الوطن والعالم.
في تظهير الحكاية تبدو يارا نموذجاً للفتاة التي تفضل الحب على المال، تقف إلى جانب زوجها، الذي أحبته على الرغم من أنه أهملها وتزوج عليها... وبقيت إلى جانبه ترعاه وتنصحه وتبحث له عن عمل، إلا أنها لم تكن تعرف أن الأيام ستخبئ لها الكثير، وأنها في يوم من الأيام ستقف حائرة بين مبادئها في الحياة وأحلامها؛ "أنا لم أحدثه عن هذا السرّ الذي لن أكشف عنه لأحد... مات سالم ولم يعرف هذا السرّ وقبله مات والداه دون أن يعرفا بحبلي وطارق نفسه لا يعرف السرّ والطبيب لا يعرفه إلاّ أن الدكتورة عائدة تعرف نصفه وليس كله... عدت أراجع نفسي وأقول هل ينسجم هذا الموقف مع ما أنادي به من مثل وأخلاق؟ أيجوز لي حرمان أب من ابنته؟ وأي ضمير حي يقبل حرمان طفلة من حنان وعطف والدها، ما هو موقف الشرع والقوانين المدنية في هذا الأمر؟ بأي وجه أقابل العدالة، وبأي موقف أقف بين يدي الله...".
والسؤال الذي سوف يتبادر إلى ذهن القارئ هو: ما هو السرّ الذي لم تكشف عنه الرواية؟ وبعبارة أخرى، ما المعنى المستفاد من قراءتها؟ الجواب عن هذا السؤال ليس سهلاً قبل أن يتم قراءة الرواية، متمتعاً بلحظات من الحكاية سوف تشغله عن نفسه، فالمعنى الروائي خلاصة حياة بأكملها، حياة طبيب، وحياة مريض في آن معاً...
