سعت هذه الدراسة لإزاحة الستار وإزالة الأوهام عن بعض الملابسات التي اكتنفت قصة الإيمان بالمهدي وعن ما اعترى البعض من شكوك، وقد تناولت هذه البحوث جملة مواضيع حاولت من خلالها الإطلالة على سيرة الإمام المهدي من الولادة إلى تاريخ ما بعد الظهور، وذلك لينتقل القارئ بذهنه إلى أحداث تلك المرحلة والحقبة الهامة من التاريخ.
ولذا كانت أهم فصول هذا الكتاب وأبوابه تتعرض للأمور التالية: أولاً: ولادة الإمام المهدي والأحداث التي رافقتها والمناقشة في كل الكلمات والأقوال التي حاولت جعل هذه القضية من الأوهام والخيالات الدينية. ثانياً: غيبة الإمام المهدي وفلسفتها وضرورتها، وكل الشبهات التي أثيرت حولها، وأحوال السفراء والنواب في عصر الغيبة. ثالثاً: يوم الظهور وعلاماته وشروطه، وتاريخ الظهور وموعده. رابعاً: أصحاب الإمام المهدي وأنصاره ومواصفاتهم. خامساً: الأحداث التي ستجري بعد ظهور الإمام على ضوء الروايات والأحاديث الشريفة. سادساً: دولة الإمام المهدي: خصائصها ومميزاتها، ومفهوم الرجعة في الإسلام، وكانت الخاتمة حول واجبات المؤمنين وتكاليفهم تجاه صاحب العصر والزمان.
