أصبح الكلام عن الحوار اليوم موضة العصر خاصة مع شيوع مقولة "حوار الحضارات والثقافات" بعد عقود على انتشار الدعوة إلى الحوار الإسلامي المسيحي. ولقد أصبح الحوار، قيمة مطلقة بذاته، ومكسباً من مكتسبات الثقافة المعاصرة، يقدم في غالب الأحيان على أنه "الحل المثالي" لأي خلاف أو سؤ فهم أو اختلاف، أو لكل المشاكل الإنسانية عموماً.
هذا ولا يمكن أن يقوم حوار ويستقيم مبناه ومعناه بدون الارتكاز إلى مسلمات ضرورية مطلقة أولها نشدان الحقيقة، مهما كانت، والعدل في الأحكام، ولو على ذي قربى أو على النفس، والتقوى في خلاص النية، ووقف المتحاورين على قدم المساواة، والاعتراف بالاختلاف كسنة إلهية وكونية وبحق الآخر المختلف في التعبير عن رأيه بحرية، رغب معهد الدراسات الإسلامية المسيحية في أن يكون هذا المؤلف باكورة إصداراته تحت عنوان "دفاتر الحوار" والذي جاء ثمرة جلسات للحوار اللبناني والعربي حول العلاقات الإسلامية المسيحية وقد ضم أوراق حوارية جاءت نتيجة إسهامات مفكرين كان لهم طول باع في ميدان الحوار كالقس د. رياض جرجور والأستاذ محمد السمّاك والعلامة السيد هاني فحص ود. طارق متري ود. سعد المولى وسواهم من أغنوا ثقافة الحوار، وساهموا كلٌّ بقدر إمكانياته في تظهير صورة التسامح والإقرار بالاختلاف لبناء لبنان وطناً ينعم الجميع فيه بالاستقرار، وأمة تسهم في حضارة الإنسانية.
