تتكون هذه الدراسة من قسمين أساسيين: قسم نظري يستعرض استعراضاً نقدياً وتحليلياً التراث السيكولوجي والاجتماعي الأنثروبولوجى لظاهرة الخرافة والإيمان بها وأنواعها ووظائفها وأضرارها ومدى انتشارها وتفشيها حتى في أرقى المجتمعات الحديثة كالمجتمع الأوروبي والأمريكي وأكثر المؤسسات علمانية كالقوات المسلحة البحرية والبرية والجوية في المجتمع الأمريكي.. الخ. وقسم ميداني عملي يستهدف التعرف على مدى انتشار الأفكار الخرافية في المجتمع اللبنانية وخاصة بين طلاب وطالبات المدارس والجامعات، ومقارنة هذه النتائج بمثيلاتها في المجتمع المصري وفي الدراسات السابقة التي أجريت على الشباب اللبناني.
وتتناول الدراسة الحقلية موضوعات كثيرة كتحضير الأرواح والسحر والحسد والمندل والفأل والحظ والبخت واستطلاعهما في الصحف والمجلات وقراءة الكف والفنجان ودور الاحجبة والتعاويذ والتمائم وإطلاق البخور والتشاؤم والتفاؤل من بعض الأرقام ومن بعض الحيوانات والإيمان بوجود الأرواح والشياطين أو الجان والإيمان بالأمثلة الشعبية الخرافية السائدة والإيمان بالحظ والصدفة والعين الشريرة وبعض الخرافات كمعرفة العلاقة بين التحصيل الأكاديمي والإيمان بالخرافة وبين التقدم في العمر واستمرار الإيمان بها، ومعرفة أي الجنسين أكثر تأثيراً بالمعتقدات الخرافية، وأثر المذهب الديني في الإيمان بالخرافات ومعرفة العلاقة بين الإيمان بالخرافات وبعض متغيرات الشخصية وسماتها كالانطواء والكذب والشعور بالأمان والخوف... الخ، وإلى جانب ذلك استهدفت الدراسة الحالية وضع مقاييس للتعرف على الاتجاه نحو العلم والإيمان به والتحلي بالمسات العلمية بين عينة مصرية...
