مهما قيل في ماهية الفلسفة، هناك حقيقة لا يمكن تجاهلها، وهذه الحقيقة هي أن في الفلسفة نوعاً من الجهد المتصل لفهم أكثر الأمور والقضايا أساسية. والمطلعون على التعاليم والمعارف الدينية يعلمون جيداً أن الجهود التي يبذلها الإنسان لفهم القضايا الأساسية المتصلة بالوجود، لا يمكن أن تتعرض للذم والتقريع. فهذه الجهود الإنسانية الأصيلة هي التي عملت على إغناء تاريخ الثقافة الدينية ونشره في مساحة عريضة وواسعة. ففي الثقافة الإسلامية الثرية قضايا، يعد التماس بين الفكر الفلسفي وغير الفلسفي أهمها بل وأكثرها صخباً.
في هذا الإطار يأتي كتاب "حركة الفكر الفلسفي في العالم الإسلامي" حيث يبحث عدداً من القضايا التي يمكن تسميتها بحركة الفكر الفلسفي. والأفكار الفلسفية في العالم الإسلامي لم تنطلق بهدوء وبدون صراع، وإنما كانت تجابه في كل مرحلة زمنية نوعاً من العداء والمعارضة. ولا شك في أن القضايا السياسية والتطورات الاجتماعية، كانت تلعب دوراً رئيساً في رفض الأفكار الفلسفية أو تأييدها. والكثير من أولئك الذين ناصبوا الفلسفة العداء، كانوا متناثرين، علموا أم لم يعلموا، بأحد التيارات السياسية، وكان يؤدهم مصدر من مصادر القوة والنفوذ. ورغم أن شخصيات كأبي حامد الغزالي، وعلاء الدين الطوسي كانت تكتب انطلاقاً من دوافع دينية حتى أن هذين الأخيرين صنفا كتابين يحمل كل منهما اسم "تهافت الفلاسفة" خلال فترتين زمنيتين متباينتين، غير أن الغزالي كان على صلة بنظامية بغداد والسياسة السلجوقية، وعلاء الدين الطوسي كان تحت نفوذ الخلافة العثمانية وهيمنتها. ويصدق هذا الأمر علي خواجه زاده وكتابه الذي يحمل عنوان "تهافت الفلاسفة" أيضاً.
وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن هذا الكتاب لا يتناول التطورات السياسية في العالم، وإنما يتناول حركة الفكر الفلسفي الحافلة بالأحداث، ذلك الفكر الذي اجتاز مختلف الفرق والتكتلات المتعددة والمتضادة، والمعارضة والمؤيدة، وواجه مختلف الفرق والتكتلات المتعددة والمتضادة، والمعارضة والمؤيدة، وواجه مختلف الأزمات المتفاقمة والعسيرة.
