يعد حجة الإسلام "أبو حامد الغزالي" من أعظم العلماء المسلمين وأغزرهم معرفة وعلماً، وقد خلف العديد من الآثار التي تدل على سعة علمه وعلو همته وغزارة إنتاجه. ومن بين آثاره الكثيرة تحتل مكانة مميزة كتاب المنقذ من الضلال وكتاب إحياء علوم الدين وكتاب المستصفى وغيرها من الكتب، والمؤلف الدكتور غلام حسين إبراهيمي ديناني يبحث في كتابه هذا موقف الغزالي من المنطق والمعرفة إذ يرى أن الغزالي يعتقد بأن الموازين المنطقية كانت موجودة قبل الإسلام لكنها مستخرجة من الكتب السماوية كما يعتقد أيضاً أنها موجودة في القرآن الكريم وقد توصل لاستخراجها منه ووضعها بين يدي العلماء في قالب اصطلاحات بديعة.
كما أن الغزالي أورد في كتاب "معيار العلم" بعض ألفاظ الحكماء واصطلاحاتهم وذكر حدودها وتعاريفها، وهي مقتبسة في معظمها من الإلهيات والطبيعيات. وهو كمنطقي يعطي أهمية قصوى للقاس البرهاني، ويعتبر نتائجه جزءاً من الحقائق، ومن هنا انشغاله بالكشف عن مصدر الاختلاف بين العلماء رغم أن البرهان المنطقي وراء ظهور اليقين.
وقد عزا الغزالي أساس الاختلاف والسقطة إلى القصور في الفهم وعدم رعاية شرائط القياس. ويعتقد الغزالي أيضاً أن العقل إذ لم يستطع أن يبعد شر الوهم عن الإنسان فستؤثر وساوسه على نفوس العلماء والفضلاء، وتترسخ في قلوبهم الاعتقادات الباطلة. يتناول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب أبعاد شخصية الغزالي، ويطرح سؤالاً عن نمط المعارضة التي عارض بها الغزالي الفلاسفة خاصة وإن الطريقة التي عارض بها الغزالي الفلاسفة قد وجد لها أنصارا في العلام المسيحي فضلاً عن العالم الإسلامي.
