ليس في حياة أبي ماضي أثرٌ، أو مظهرٌ لما تعود الناس رؤيته أو انتظاره في حيوات الشعراء، من صخب. فقد مرت أيامه كلها على هذا الأديم، دون حادثة أو تجربة غير عادية. لقد عاش وعمل وهاجر وتزوج ورزق أولاداً، وكان موفّقاً إلى حدّ بعيد، في معيشته وعمله وهجرته زواجه وأولاده. بيد أن هذا الهدوء الخارجي في مجرى أيامه، ومجالي سيرته، ينطوي-كما يظهر في أشعاره التي يحتوي هذا الكتاب نصّها-على صخب داخلي عميق الغور، وكانت سريرته تعجّ عجيجاً بالتساؤلات والاعتراضات والشكوك والهواجس القلقة والخواطر المثيرة، حتى لتحسب أنها مستودع تفجيرات متصلة، ومثار ضوضاء صامتة، لا يملك معها أن يطمئن بحال من الأحوال، لا هو يحاول أن يطمئن على نحو من الأنحاء، بل يستجيب لكل ما يساوره، ويمضي في التعبير عن كل ما يتفجر في نفسه، أو يفجره "التأمل" في قرارته. وما يحتويه هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا ما هو إلا مقتطفات من أشهر قصائده الشعرية، مضافاً إليها كمقدمة للكتاب نبذة قصيرة يعرض فيها لمحة عن سيرته الشخصية وتطلعاته الأخلاقية، وأسلوبه العربي...
