"النهار الذي يشرق في دمي مثلما يشرق كل صباح... النهار الذي يعثر على أوتاره في حنجرتي... النهار الذي يصعد سلالم بيتي مثل سكير... النهار الذي يسمح عن أحاسيس عفن الرطوبة... هو نفق طويل... هواؤه كاسحة ألغام من البرد، جدرانه مقلوبة من الرعب، سقفه جمجمة نخرها السوس من الوحدة والنسيان، نفق طويل، في آخره سرير خشبي قديم، ترقد عليه حياتي كجسد قتلته دمعة واحدة... حياتي التي هي أخف من ريش العصور وأعمق من الألم. لا شيء يعزيني بالذهاب أبعد من صورة كهذي للحياة، طالما كان الجنون هو رهاني الأكبر عليها في السباق وطالما كان الحلم الغزير غزارة البحر في صورتي التي ما زلت أبحث عنها في محطات السفر، وعلى الأرصفة والشوارع، وعلى سطوح المباني المتشققة بفعل الزمن في مدينتي الأحساء، وطالما كان عبثي هو الآخر أصبح محبوساً في لعبة شطرنج!!"
في هذا الديوان قصائد أخف من الريش تحمل أحاسيس أعمق من الألم معاني كامنة أوسع من الزمن.
