متعة الكتابة مع الريشة هيذر مستخلص يقوي هذا الكتاب ثقة الأطفال الصغار بأنفسهم وهو يأخذ بأيديهم بطريقة تجعلهم يتعرفون على أوضاع الأحرف العلوية والسفلية، للغة الإنكليزية، وعلى كيفية كتابتها بالشكل السليم. كل صفحة في الكتاب تُعلم حرفاً واحداً؛ وهي تنقسم إلى ثلاثة أقسام: القسم العُلوي منها مخصص لتعليم الشكل الكبير للحرف، وينبه إلى متابعة الأسهم، التي توجه الطفل إلى نقطة البدء، ثم إلى حركة اليد من بعدها، حتى نهاية كتابته. وقد تُرك فراغ لسطرين مخططين ملونين كي يملأهما الطفل وهو يقلد الطريقة التي أُوضحت بحرف مطبوع. ويتألف القسم الثاني من ثلاثة أسطر مخططة وملونة لتعليم كتابة الشكل الصغير للحرف بمساعدة أسهم تتجه من بداية كتابته، وتلتوي مع اتجاه كتابة الحرف. ويملأ الطفل الأسطر الثلاثة وهو يقلد الطريقة التي أوضحت بحرف مطبوع. وتتكرر في كل صفحة بين القسمين السابقين ملاحظةٌ هامةٌ تنصح الطفل ألا يرفع قلم الرصاص عن الكتاب وهو يكتب الحرف. أما القسم الثالث فقد خصص لنشاط تلوين أو وصل بين الصور والحرف الذي تعلم الطفل كتابته في تلك الصفحة, مما يرسَّخ الأحرف وكتابتها في ذهن الطفل. ومع انتهاء الكتيِّب يكون الطفل قد أتقن كتابة أحرف اللغة الإنكليزية كاملةً.
