تجربة عاشها مؤلف هذا الكتاب في السجون العراقية لمدة عشر سنين. كتب خلالها مذكراته في غفلة من أعين الرقباء حيث تبدأ معاناته ومعاناة العشرات معه لحظة الاعتقال الأول حيث اقتيد إلى غرف التعذيب السوداء التي يستخدم فيها الجلادون جميع الوسائل الغريبة التي يصفها الكاتب في مذكراته، إذ استخدموا معه العقاري والتعليق ويداه مربوطتان إلى الخلف.
ويروي المؤلف قصص حدثت معه ومع رفاقه في المعتقل، كما يذكر أسماء من مات منهم تحت التعذيب ومن ظل على قيد الحياة.. ولا ينسى الكاتب في ختام كتابه أن يقدم بعض الوصايا التي تفيد المعتقلين في معركة التحقيق. كما يذكر أسماء بعض المعتقلين الذين أخرجوا من المعتقلات سنتي 1980 وسنة 1981 ولا يعرف مصيرهم حتى اليوم.
