يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن سيرة حياة السيدة زينب إبنة علي بن أبي طالب ,اخت الحسنين رضي الله عنهما، بهدف أن تتعرف نساء المسلمين على خصالها الحميدة، التي كانت بالنسبة للنساء في عصرها القدوة والرمز في عبادتها وعيشها وصبرها وتضحيتها في سبيل الدين.
يبدأ الكتاب بولادة العقيلة زينب، متحدثاً بومضات عن طفولتها، وعلاقتها بأخيها الحسين، ودورها في نقل الأحاديث سنداً ومتناً، وزواجها، وأولادها، وكيف كانت تدعو "دعاء مروي عن العقيلة زينب". بعد ذلك يتحدث الكتاب عن رحلتها في موكب الشهادة واصفاً الركب الحسيني، وكيف وصل نبأ استشهاد الإمام الحسين إلى المدينة، وحوارها مع يزيد، ورجوعها إلى المدينة ووفاتها. كما يتضمن الكتاب "نص خطبة فاطمة الزهراء رضي الله عنها" ، و "صورة وثيقة الأوقاف لمشهد العقيلة الجليلة السيدة زينب الكبرى بالشام سنة 768 ه".
