الكتاب هو الأول الذي يتناول فيه الكاتب نقد الشر المحضّ على ضوء نظرية الاستبداد في عتبة الألفية الثالثة، يقول الكاتب في مقدمته بأن الشر المحض هو حال امتناع فهم العالم بغير أدوات الشر المحض نفسه. وهو الاستحواز على مركزية الفهم والتأويل بما يلغي أية مغايرة لمحيط الدائرة حوله، ذلك أن شرور التاريخ فجرت جاهزيات الفهم بالرغم عنها، حتى استطاع الفهم أن يتجاوز جاهزياته تلك واحدة بعد الأخرى، ويغلق دارة كل تحقيب حدثي أو معرفي، وصولاً إلى حالة قيام الفهم بذاته ولِذَاته التي تميز خاتمة الحضارة، والشروع في انبناء المدينة. وبذلك لا يبقى أمام شرور الحضارة النسبية إلا القفزة النوعية الأخيرة نحو تصييرها الشر المحض، أو اختفائها المحتوم كأركيولوجيا فعالة ترميزية.
ويرى الكاتب والحال هذه بأنه لن تتحقق تلك القفزة إلا بالنقلة الحاسمة من صراع جدلي ضد ومع جاهزيات الفهم، إلى الفهم وموقعه بالذات، إلى: الفكر بما يرجع إليه وحده.
يأتي هذا الكتاب في هذا الإطار المعرفي في محاولة لإثبات بأن فوز الفكر أخيراً إنما يكمن في اكتشاف وجه العالم الحقيقي بريئاً من إسقاطات الأنظمة المعرفية والأدلجات واستثماراتها التأحيدية للكون فيه، من أجل أخص الخاص فيهما، حيث يقول المؤلف بأن مثل هذا الفوز هو نصر للميتافيزيقا الأسّية على كل قوالبها المصادرة لإشاراتها، على "الميتافيزيقيات الأخرى" المسكوت عنها، والمتداولة علنياً ملء ثقافات لعالم ميتافيزيقي مضاد.
