يضم هذا الكتاب بين طياته دراسة تحليلية لمسرحية غادة أفاميا، المسرحية الشعرية القومية التي تحمل في طياتها طابعاً نضالياً وطنياً يحمل أحداث العصر، حيث أن المؤلف قد أسقط على أحداثها التاريخية ليدرس الأحداث في هذه الفترة التاريخية الحاضرة المضطربة القلقة من حياة الأمة العربية، كونها تدور حول فكرة قومية وإنسانية معاً. وربما كان لأحداث هذه الأيام بالذات الفضل الأكبر في منحى هذه الدراما الشعرية وتحريك الأحداث فيها من خلال الصراع، ليطغى منها منتقلاً على امتداد الساحة العربية. واختار الكاتب من أجل ذلك مدينة أفاميا مسرحاً لأبطالها، لأنها مدينة من مدن وطنه العربي/السوري.
وهناك سبب آخر، يورده الكاتب، لاختياره موضوع مسرحية، كما في هذا الموضوع من تصوير لمشاهد مأساوية طالما شاهدها الكاتب أيام طفولته الأولى في دمشق وعاش معها حقبة من الزمن، فطبعت على صفحات ذاكرة، حافظة، واعية، وخيال يموج بالخصب والألوان، متسمة بنقاب من الوجع والقلق والغليان، واستقرت في يقين الكاتب وعقله الباطن تنمو وتتطور، لتمزق أغفلة الزمن، وتتحين الفرصة لتنفجر صراعاً درامياً يصور أحداث الماضي في صورة الحاضر المضطرم جسراً إلى مستقبل محفوف بالأمل والسلام والمحبة وتسجيلاً لتلك الحقبة في طفولة الكاتب، وتمجيداً لها، وبعثاً لماضيها الذي جمع أسمى المعاني الخيرة.
"غادة أفاميا" أول مسرحية صدرت للشاعر عدنان مردم بك وهي تدور حول فكرة قومية وإنسانية معاً، واختار مدينة أفاميا مسرحاً لأبطالها، وهي ترمز إلى قطعة من البلاد الشامية، حيث يسجل في مجمل مسرحيته الحقبة التي كان فيها الشعب السوري بمجموع طبقاتها حرباً على المستعمر، وهذه دراسة تحليلية وتفصيلية حول هذه المسرحية.
