يضم الكتاب ما جاء في جريدة الديار عن الدكتور داهش وذلك في باب "الملف" المخصص للعقائد الفكرية والسياسية والدينية في لبنان. وهو ملف بلغ من الضخامة حجماً تجاوز أربعين حلقة في جريدة الديار (من 1998/11/18 إلى 1999/1/18). والدكتور داهش وحسب ما يراه اسكندر شاهين صاحب هذا الكتاب هو رجل صاحب عقيدة إنسانية روحية قام بأعمال غير مألوفة لا يجوز الاستهانة بها أو الوقوف منها موقف اللامبالاة. وهو أيضاً أديب غزير الإنتاج ينمو في أدبه منحى مثالياً إصلاحياً. وفضلاً عن ذلك كله، فقد كان شغوفاً بالفنون الجميلة دؤوباً على جمع آثارها، خلف متحفاً فنياً يقوم الآن في قلب مدينة نيويورك ولقد رأى القائم على تحرير باب الملف في جريدة الديار إصدار تلك الحلقات من "الملف" الداهشي في كتاب ليقدم للقرّاء صورة جلية عن قضية شغلت المجتمع اللبناني طويلاً، وما تزال. وقد اقتضى فيه ذلك: 1-تقسيم الكتاب إلى أربعة أقسام، وترتيب الحلقات أو الفصول بحسب هذا التقسيم لا بحسب صدورها الزمني في الجريدة، وذلك حرصاً على حسن التبويب، وخشية من تداخل المواضيع بعضها في بعض، 2-إضافة فصول جديدة تجمعت لدى المصنف مراجعها، إلا أنه لم يتم نشرها في الجريدة لضيق الحيّز المناخ، 3-ضبط النصوص على أصولها، وردّ المعلومات أو الوقائع إلى مصادرها الرئيسية مع تذييلها بالحواشي. 4-تهذيب اللغة، وتصويب الأخطاء، سواء اللغوية منها أو غير اللغوية، وحذف التكرار الذي تقتضيه الضرورات الصحافية أحياناً.
