يتناول الكاتب "مختار الأسدي" في هذا العمل أكثر العناوين إثارة في الخطاب الإسلامي المعاصر، وخاصة الشيعي وهي: الإختلاف –النقد- الإصلاح.
جاء الكتاب رؤية نقدية جادة لتفكيك هذه المتشابكات في الرأي الآخر. يعتبر "الأسدي": أن الإختلاف لا يعني الخلاف، ,إن النقد لا يعني الشطب أو الحذف أو الإلغاء، وإن التصحيح لا يعني التسقيط والتشهير وإن النصيحة لا تعني التجريح والتعريض... نعم إن الإختلاف والنقد والنصيحة والتصحيح، كلها ضرورات حياتية مهمة لبناء الفرد والمجتمع، وإنها أسس متينة من ركائز التكامل والنضج ناهيك عن كونها أسباباً لا بد منها للتسامي والإرتقاء، لا يستغني عنها أي بيت أو أسرة، أو جماعة، بل تحتاجها كل ثورة وكل حزب وكل أمة، ويسعة لترويض الناس عليها، كل قائد وكل ثائر وكل مصلح وكل مجدد، بل كلَ رسولٍ وكل بني، وكل وحي، وكل زعيم...".يأتي الكتاب في ستة فصول متلاحقة يكمل بعضها بعضاً من حيث الطرح والمناقشة الرصينة والأمانة في نقل الخطاب، وتفكيكه، وتقديمه، للقارئ وهي: الفصل الأول جاء بعنوان "ثقافة الإختلاف.. ضرورتها وواقعيتها" وتتضمن أدبي الحوار، والفصل الثاني "النقد والنقد الذاتي" ويتضمن رؤية الشهيد الصدر، الخميني، المطهري، الخامنئي، ثم الفصل الثالث "مصداقان على الإختلاف في البيت الواحد" ويتضمن مصداقان: الأول عن الظاهرة الحسينية الشعائر والممارسات (تطبير وأقفال وزحف) والمصداق الثاني عن المرأة المسلمة، ثم الفصل الرابع "رسالة التنزيه للسيد محسن الأمين" وتتضمن نص رسالة التنزيه ومناقشات مهمة عن الإبتلاء والتكليف.. اما الفصل الخامس فيأتي في "الملحمة الحسينية في فكر الشهيد المطهري" ويناقش فيه الكاتب مسألة الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر في الملحمة الحسينية، ثم الفصل السادس ويتعرض لـ "التطبير وبعض الممارسات الخاطئة في الزيارات" وفيه خطاب السيد "علي الخامنئي" ودور علماء الدين وأعمال عاشوراء. وأخيراً يجمع الكاتب آراء "فقهاء وعلماء آخرون تحدثوا عن التطبير" نذكر منهم أبو الحسن الأصفهاني، الخميني، محسن الحكيم، محمد جواد مغنية، القمي، الحائري، محمد حسين فضل الله وآخرون.
كتاب هام يقوم على الحوار واستيعاب النقد ويدعو لمراجعة المسيرة ووعي الذات لبناء خطاب إسلامي معاصر.
