من هذا المنطلق دأب الباحث "مختار الأسدي" إلى طرح مشروع أو بوابة مشروع فكري وحضاري ربما يقود إلى حوار أعمق مع الآخر.
يستند الكاتب في عمله هذا إلى كتاب لهم مكانتهم وموقعيتهم في التحكم بالرؤية الشيعية المعاصرة أولاً، وكذلك وثائقهم ودروهم في تحريك مراكز ومؤسسات البحث العلمي الشيعية، وضمن محاثيات العقل الشيعي المعاصر. نذكر منهم العلاقة "محمد حسين فضل الله"، "الشيخ محمد مهدي شمس الدين"، ومع الدكتور "وهية الزحيلي"، والدكتور "محمد سعيد رمضان البوطي"وآخرون.
وفي هذا الكتاب اعتبر "الأسدي": "أن العقل الشيعي المعاصر هو ضحية العجز أو عدم الاتفاق على تحديد تعريف ثابت وواضح بمصطلحاته في الدائرة الشيعية نفسها وسعي كل طرف (...) على تقديم تفسير معين أو الإدلاء بقراءة خاصة أو تأويل خاص لهذا المصطلح أو ذاك يتقاطع مع تفسير الآخر(...) الأمر الذي ينتقل إلى دائرة العوام و(المقلدين)، فيتكتَل هؤلاء أيضاً وينقسمون وبالتالي يتوزعون ضمن دوائر استقطابات غير مقصودة في البداية، ولكنها تصل في نهاية المطاف إلى تكتلات ومذاهب وكيانات معبئة ومستقطبة داخل الإطار الشيعي نفسه..".
تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب من كونه يلقي الأضواء بجرأة بالغة يتخللها مناقشة موضوعية للتراث الشيعي تدخل في أساسيات المذهب مثل العصمة، الولاية التكوينية وعلم المعصوم، التقية، الانتظار والتقليد والطاعة، الشأنية والقداسة، الاجتهاد والتجديد، كذلك يتطرق الكتاب إلى مسألة الغلو والغلاة في العقل الشيعي ويذهب باتجاه الفرق المعاصرة ويكشف عن كواليها مثل الشيخية، البابية، البهائية، القاديانية.. الخ ثم يأتي صوب إشكالية الدور المطروح في ولاية الفقيه ودستور الجمهورية الاسلامية الأيرانية ويرد على آراء هامة للشيخ الآملي، ويعرض لرأي مهم آخر للشهيد الصدر... وهكذا.
