"أين كنت يا أستاذ، عندما احتجنا إليك؟ إذا كنت تعتقد أنك تشتري نفسك بهذه التسجيلات أو بكتابة كتاب عن أبو فارس، فأنت مخطئ، لا يهمني الكتاب. يهمني أبو فارس، وكنت أفضل ألف مرة أن يبقى أبو فارس تاج رأسي ودرع العائلة على كتابة ألف كتاب. عرفت يا أستاذ، أنك أنقذت رامح من بين أيديهم، أطعموه قتلة محترمة، رأيت عينه أكبر من عينه. كانت قبضات أيديهم وكعاب أحذيتهم في عينه المنى... أين كنت يوم أخذوا أبو فارس؟ لماذا لم تعرف، حيث كنت، أنه في خطر، وتقطع البحار السبعة؟ أكيد الله موجود، وأكيد الحب موجود، وأكيد السعادة موجودة، لأنني آمنت بالله وعرفت الحب والسعادة. ولكن هل يكون الحب كفراً بالله والسعادة تمرداً على مشيئته؟ عقلي البسيط لا يحد هذه الأمور كلها. علمونا في حياتنا أننا نعيش في وادي الدموع... أين كنت يا أستاذ؟ أخذوا الأولاد وأخذوا الرجال. والآن يأخذون تعب الأولاد والرجال ولم يبق لي إلا الأرض والحجارة والأولاد المشوهون. وسجوننا في مستقبل أسود لا نعرف كيف سنخترقه في يوم من الأيام. حتى ليرات الورق وليرات الذهب التي كنت أتصور أنها بقيت لي عرفوا كيف يأخذونها منها. لعنهم الله لأنني وإن أخطأت فلا أستحق هذا العذاب. لعنهم الله ولعن حزبهم. لأننا لولاهم إلى هنا. ولأن الموارنة وزغرتا ولبنان يستحقون أرفى وأجمل مما قدموه لهم. كانوا أسوا نماذج فرزتها الطائفة. ووقعوا على أسوأ منهم من الطوائف الأخرى، فخربونا وخربوا الوطن. وسكتت أم فارس ولوت رقبتها".
عندما تتحكم المفاهيم الخاطئة في العقول؛ لن يبقى للإنسان سوى الضياع، وعندما يتحكم الساسة بالأفراد فلن يكون مصير الوطن سوى الخراب. هذا ما يحاول الروائي الإفصاح عنه من خلال روايته هذه التي تتداخل فيها الأحداث التي أخذت مجراها في الحرب اللبنانية والتي كان مسرحها قلب زغرتا وقلب كل جزء من أجزاء الوطن لبنان.
