في هذا الكتاب محاولة لحل أزمة النص الديني بين الخيار السلفي الذي يرى بأن النص نهائي وفوق حرفي، والتأويلات الأخرى التي ترى أنه لا يوجد في الكون كلام لا يتأول، وأنه ليس مجرد إبداع للدماغ فقط، بل هو أيضاً فعل في التاريخ، فعل امتدادي عمل طابع السيطرة المطلقة على الأفكار الأخرى.
درجت الثقافة التقليدية على تبني الخصوصية بواسطة ربط المجتمع بالماضي في كل شؤون الحياة، والتركيز على ما يختلف به أفراد المجتمع عن بقية البشر، من هذا المنطلق تعتمد صياغة الهوية في هذا الفكر على عملية المواجهة، والنظرة المتعالية إلى أطياف شعوب الأرض.

وتتطرق بعض جوانب الدراسة إلى بعض وسائل العولمة الحديثة من سيطرة شبكات الإتصال العالمية وقنوات الإعلام التفاعلي، وأثرها في النماذج التواصلية السائدة في الثقافة العربية، وعلاقة عوامل الهيمنة في الفضاء العمومي الشعبي بتشكيل فكر المجتمع الموروث.
هل يحب الناس إطلاق أسماء خاصة على أشيائهم المحببة إلى نفوسهم؟ لماذا سمينا الأتراك الروم؟ ولماذا يسمي الطفل لعبته والهاوي سيارته أو هاتفه الجوال؟ لماذا سميت الأعوام... قديماً: عام الرمادة، عام الفيل، وحديثاً سنة الطبعة، سنة الجراد؟...
