بعد أحداث الحادي عشر من سبتمبر وأحداث التفجيرات في داخل السعودية أصبح السعوديون تحت الأنظار، وهذا ما دفع بعض التحولات المتسارعة إلى الظهور، وتغيرت خطابات عدة من داخل الخطابات الديني من حالة الإنغلاق إلى حال الإنفتاح، وعاد صوت الإنفتاح من جديد وطرح نقداً حاداً للعديد من الأمور، هذه التحولات دفعت الدولة إلى تبني خطاب الإصلاح، وتعزيز قيم التسامح والوطنية أكثر من ذي قبل.
وهذا الكتاب يحاول أن يطرح الأسئلة الفكرية أكثر من كونه طرحاً للإجابات في الواقع الفكري السعودي، وهو في الأصل مجموعة من المقالات والبحوث كتبت على مدار سنوات؛ إنه كتاب يبحث في الإشكاليات التي مرت على مجتمعنا السعودي ويقرأ التحولات الفكرية من منظور نقدي، لأنه برأي الكاتب ما يزال المجتمع في مرحلة من مراحل النمو، مما يجعل تلك الإشكاليات المبثوثة هنا من النوع الذي يحتاج إلى تأصيل، كونها تدور في الإطار الجدلي أكثر منها في الإطار التحليلي أو النقدي.
ولذلك فهو هنا يحاول تقديم بعض الآراء لعلها أن تفضي إلى ما يمكن أن يحرك الراكد الفكري العام دون إدعاء طرح الحلول أو الإجابات النهائية.
