ما يعرض في هذا الكتاب ليس جديداً، ولا خافياً على مستبصر في الحياة؛ لكن زاوية النظر، وكيف الحجب التي قد تكون سائرة للنظرة الكلية، هو الجديد في الموضوع. وما يتصل بهذا الجديد ينطلق من كون النظرية العلمية المنتظرة، التي تربط البيولوجيا بعلم النفس وعلوم الإدراك قد أصحبت جاهزة في هذا الإطار الشمولي. ويعتمد أساساً هذا الإطار على مفهوم التطور، الذي كان قد أسسه تشارلز داروين في منتصف القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي. وبذلك يفهم المطلع على هذه الحقول البينية ونظريات التطور الحديثة كيفية اشتغال العقل، وكيفية تعلّم الناس ونموهم، وكيفية تقدم الثقافة.
بهذا التقديم يبدأ فالح شبيب العجمي كتابه الموسوم بـ (الثقافيم: أوهام تشبه الحقائق) يتحرى من خلاله ما الذي يبني أذهان البشر؟ وكيف تعمل الثقافات على تشكيل الذهن البشري والتاثير في سلوك الإنسان؟ وللإجابة عن هذه التساؤلات وغيرها يتناول المؤلف عدة قضايا في إطار توضيح دور الثقافيم في حياة الناس، وتأثيره غير المباشر أو المحسوس في الأفراد وأهم تلك القضايا-كما يرد في الكتاب-كيفية اشتغال العقل، وتصورات الحقيقة، وجوانب الثقافيمات المؤثرة، وتحددي مراحل استقلال فيروس الثقافيم عن منتجيه.
والكتاب في مضمونه يناقش إشكاليات تطور الوعي عند الأفراد وتأثير البيئة والثقافة والعلم والين في ذلك كله، وسيلة إلى ذلك نظريات علماء وفلاسفة ومفكرين، يعرضها المؤلف على بساط البحث، وسواء اتفق القارئ مع طرح المؤلف أم لم يتفق فإن الكتاب يشكل لبنة أساسية في تطور المعرفة والثقافة، وإضافة مهمة إلى المكتبة العربية، تستحق القراءة.
