يدور موضوع الكتاب حول المواكب العزائية في النجف الأشرف، تاريخها مشروعيتها، وكيفيتها.وهذا الكتاب يرافق هذه الظاهرة في حياة المسلمين وما يتبعها من مؤثرات محزنة نتيجة فقد عزيز؛ فهل هي أمر مشروع من وجهة نظر الشرع الإسلامي. يعتبر مؤلف الكتاب "إن النياحة تبعاً للمؤثرات المحزنة أمر طبيعي، وأما من وجهة نظر الشارع، فالأدلة البيانية النقلية والأدلة العقلية والأحاديث الواصلة إلينا بطرق صحيحة لا تنفي شرعيتها، إذ تدل على جوازها بل على استحبابها وزيادة الأجر فيها... كالبكاء في مصاب الرسول الأعظم والأئمة المعصومين، والبكاء على الحسن والحسين خاصة...".
وهذا العمل يزخر بصور حية للمواكب العزائية لآل بيت رسول الله عليهم السلام ولشخصيات إسلامية شيعية –علمائية- كان لها دوراً فاعلاً في الحياة السياسية والدينية، منذ عهد الإسلام الأول إلى اليوة وخصوصاً في النجف الأشرف.
