فالكتاب المتداول الذي بين ايدينا يتحدث عن افضل الطرق لتنشئة الاطفال، واهمية اللعب عند الاطفال، ولان مثل هذا الموضوع يشدنا ويجعلنا نسعى في قراءته الذي يقع في اطار ما يسمى بالفهم السيكولوجي العام للظاهرة النفسية، الذي يعتمد على ملاحظات عرضية غير مقصودة، ماخوذة من الخبرة الحياتية الذاتية. كما يمكن الاعتماد على الفهم العام في دراسة النمو النفسي يؤدي الى معرفة غير دقيقة، لذلك فان طالب العلم ينبغي ان يعرف الحقائق النمائية على اساس علمي بمعنى ان يعتمد في معلوماته عن النمو النفسي للانسان على نتائج العلم وليس على نتائج الملاحظات العابرة التي قد تكون متفقة او مختلفة مع نتائج العلم وذلك لكي يقوم بدوره في عملية التعليم والتربية على الوجه الصحيح.
كما يستطيع العلم الذي يعتمد على الموضوعية والصدق ان يمدنا بالحقائق التي تحسم الكثير من القضايا في مجال النمو النفسي والتي نعتمد فيها على الفهم العام وعلى ملاحظاتنا الذاتية وخبراتنا في المجال الذي نتحرك فيه، والدليل على ذلك بعض العبارات التي يمكن ان يجاب عليها بالصح او الخطا، وهي: 1- الانسان هو الكائن الوحيد الذي يستطيع استخدام اللغة، 2- الافراد الاكثر ذكاء اكثر ابتكارا، 3- النوم بعد التعلم يؤدي الى حفظ افضل، لذا فان هذا الكتاب يعتمد في مادته على نتائج البحوث العلمية في مجال النمو النفسي للانسان من المرحلة الجنينية الى مرحلة المراهقة.
