لم تكن غاية أهل "الملحق"، على مدى محو من أحد عشر عدداً (من 16/2/2003 إلى 27/4/2003)، مشاركة العراقيين كوابيس آلامهم وخوفهم على مصيرهم فحسب، وإنما، أيضاً وخصوصاً، تشييد فضاء وفي ديمقراطي، حرّ، نبيل، وغير مبرمج، للتفكير والنقد بدون خلفيات وحسابات صغيرة ودنيئة، وذلك من أجل أن يكون هذا الفضاء بمثابة تحية وعرفان من بيروت الثقافة إلى بغداد الثقافة، ومحاولة متواضعة لإعادة الاعتبار إلى الثقافة العراقية العريقة وآدابها وفنونها، وبهدف مقاومة كل أشكال الطغيان والظلم، بالشعر وبالحرية، وبلورة مواقف ثقافية جريئة ومشتركة، بين المثقفين العراقيين واللبنانيين والعرب، لتكون الصرخة فاعلة ومدوية، وإن كانت ستكون صرخة مجروحة في غابة العالم "المتمدن".
لقد احتضن "الملحق" في أعداده المذكورة أعلاه أشعاراً ونصوصاً ورسوماً ومقالات وأبحاثاً لبعض كبار الشعراء والكتاب والفنانين والباحثين والمفكرين من العراقيين واللبنانيين ولسائر العرب، بما يشكل وثيقة ضخمة يستطيع الرجوع إليها كل المهتمين بالشأن الثقافي العراقي وبحقوق الإنسان العربي وكرامته.
ولما كان جمع تلك المواد كلها وإصدارها في كتاب يتطلب من الصفحات ما لا يتسع لها سوى المجلدات، فقد آثرنا أن نختار ما يمكن أن يشكل عينات لافتة تلقي بعض الضوء على ذلك الجهد الذي اضطلعنا به إيماناً بأن ثقافة بلاد ما بين النهرين هي جزء جوهري من ثقافتنا جميعاً خصوصاً نحن اللبنانيين.
