في "مذكرات شيوعي لبناني" يرى المؤلف أن الشيوعية سقطت عالمياً، لكن القيم التي دخل الحزب وتبنى الماركسية لتحقيقها مع رفاقه، لم تسقط مع الماركسية، لأنها لم تخلق معها، الحق والخير والعدالة وتكافؤ الفرص... كلها قيم أوجدتها البشرية عبر تاريخها، وكانت الماركسية محاولة مخلصة لبلوغها، ولكنها فشلت. لذلك ليس المطلوب العودة إلى الماركسية أو تصحيحها، إنما المطلوب العودة إلى هذه القيم والعمل على تحقيقها الذي لن يكتمل إلى الأبد.
لذلك يركز المؤلف في مذكراته على إبراز اهتمامه في مرحلة "هيمنة" الشيوعية على دعوته لمعالجة الفجوات التي كانت تظهر بنية النظرية نفسها ومجاراة الشيوعيين في البلدان المتقدمة في هذا المجال.
