هذا الكتاب قراءة جديدة لفلسفة لودفيغ فويرباخ، منظوراً إليه في استقلاليته سواء تجاه سلفه هيغل أو اتجاه خلفه ماركس، يستند فيه المؤلف على كتابات فويرباخ بالدرجة الأولى، كما على آراء وطروحات كبار دارسي فويرباخ في أوروبا وأميركا.
يعتمد المؤلف طريقة المواجهة أو الحوار الحقيقي بين الفلسفة النظرية وفلسفة الإنسان، أي بين هيغل وفويرباخ، حيث إن هذا الأخير وضع فلسفته من خلال نقده فلسفة هيغل، لذلك جاء تقسيم الكتاب إلى قسمين:
الأول دراسة تحليلية معمقة واضحة للمبادئ الأساسية في الفلسفة الأوروبية، من بارمنيدس إلى أفلاطون، إلى أرسطو، إلى سبينوزا، إلى كانط... مع التوقف مطولاً عند منطق هيغل والتأكيد على أن هوية الفكر والوجود، التي تشكل نقطة اعتزاز الفلسفة الهيغلية، لم تكن إلا هوية الفكر مع ذاته.
وفي القسم الثاني يوضح المؤلف مواجهة فويرباخ للفكر المكتفي بذاته، المنغلق على ذاته، الذي يمثله منطق هيغل للوصول إلى الاستنتاج بان الديالكتيك ليس مناجاة للنظرية مع ذاتها إنما هو حوار النظرية مع الواقع التجريبي. كما يعرض في هذا القسم الدروب الشائكة التي قطعها فويرباخ لتحرير الواقع من قبضة التجريد، مؤكداً أن الهوية الحقيقية للفكر والوجود مكانها الإنسان الواقعي والمحتاج الذي يشكل الموضوع الحقيقي للفلسفة.
وقد أضفت الصفة المميزة لهذا الكتاب، أي مشاركة المؤلف الوجدانية لنظرية فويرباخ الإنسانية، زخماً وحيوية لا بد أن تأسر القارئ.
وأخيراً يرى المؤلف أن وعي ذات الفكرة لذاتها، كما هو الحال عند هيغل، لم يكن بلغة القلب، بلغة الم التي تضم ابنها، لم يكن بلغة الدين الأصلي الذي ماهيته المحبة التي يريد فويرباخ الحفاظ عليها ورفعها إلى مستوى الإلهي، إنما بلغة العقل والتجريد، بلغة الفلسفة، متعاطفاً بذلك، وفي عصر "التدمير الباخوسي" الذي نعيش فيه، مع إنسان فويرباخ المحتاج والمتألم...
