سقط النظام الشيوعي العالمي في بداية العقد الأخير من القرن الماضي . البعض قال إن الماركسية سقطت ، وغيرهم قال العكس : الماركسية القوية بفلسفتها الديالكتيكية لا يمكن أن تسقط ، لكنها لم تطبّق . وعموماً ، كثرت التفسيرات التي لم تتوصل إلى تفسير سقوط الشيوعية وتقديم البديل النضالي عنها ، إذا وُجد .
ركّز المؤلف تحليله على الناحية العلمية تحديداً : ما هي حصة الماركسية في المظاهر السلبية للشيوعية ؟ ما هو الدور الذي لعبه قصور التحليل الماركسي في توجيه هذه التجربة التاريخية وسقوطها ؟
وقد أعاده ذلك إلى المصادر التي أخذ عنها ماركس ودراستها من جديد ، وفي أساسها طبعاً ديالكتيك هيغل ، مبيّناً أن " صاحب المانيفست " ، أساء استعمالها في نظريته ، بما في ذلك جانبها التاريخي ، فجاءت مناقضة ، بل ومشوّهة لنظرية هيغل ذاتها ، وأن هذا التشويه هو السبب في سقوط الماركسية .
وقد خلص المؤلف إلى أن الشيوعية مستحيلة ، فلو كانت ممكنة ، ماذا يوجد بعدها ؟ وقد أجاب الشيوعيون بدون خجل : بعد الشيوعية توجد الشيوعية وحسب ! اللحقيقة أن الماركسية ناقضت نفسها ، فوصلنا إلى هنا : التاريخ توقف !
لكن التاريخ يتطور ديالكتيكياً ، ولا يتوقف ، بل سقطت الشيوعية وتابع التاريخ مسيرته الطبيعية ، يحرّكه تطور الوعي بالحرية بمعناه الشامل .
