"إذا كان السجن، في أحد وجوهه، حركة في إتجاه الداخل، فإن السفر، في أحد وجوهه، حركة في إتجاه الخارج، إنهما نقيضان لا قابلية بينهما للحب أو الصلح أو المساومة"، بهذا الوعي لفكرة اليوميات، وتجربة التعبير الأدبي عن الإقامة القسرية في المكان يكتب المؤلف".
"إنها يوميات تقتطف من أربع عشرة سنة مختومة بالصمت والعتمة والرماد، بعض صورها المضيئة، متلمسة الضوء البعيد في تلك العتمة، إنها كتابة الداخل بإزاء الخارج، ونور الحرية بإزاء عتمة الزنزانة".
"يقول صاحب هذه اليوميات، وحين خرجت عرفت ما معنى صدمة الحرية، لم أدرك للوهلة الأولى إن كنت أسرِّح بصري أم أكفكفه، كادت الزرقة أن تخنقني، زرقة قدسية لا متناهية انفسحت، وربما انسفحت أمامي، وعليّ أن أتجرعها دفعة واحدة، أنا الخارج إلى الدنيا بشهيق وزفير واهنين إلى حد الأسى والحنين؟!".
"ويضيف الكاتب: تفاصيل كثيرة تجعلني أشعر بالغربة والحيرة والتردد وعدم التصديق، لكأني واحد من أهل الكهف! أجل... كنت لا أزال أجاهد في ردم تلك الهوة التي خلفتها سنوات السجن بيني وبين العالم على الطرف الآخر من العالم حيث يعيش الشاعر الشرقي في أقصى الشمال الأوروبي، وحيث كتب هذه اليوميات، تبدو له الأرض كأنها لوحة مرسومة أو مخطّطة بالقلم والمسطرة، تناسق الشوارع في المدن والقرى، تقسيمات المروج والغابات بألوانها الربيعية والخريفية، السهول المنبسطة كأحلام المؤمنين بالجنة، يتخلل ذلك شبكات لا تنتهي من الأنهار أو القنوات الإصطناعية، وهي تتوازى وتتقاطع، لتشكل رقعة شطرنج الطبيعة الهولندية، هذه هي إذاً الأراضي المنخفضة".
