لماذا "تاريخ في رجل"؟ لأن بشير الجميل ظهر في التاريخ ولم يتوقف عنده، بل أكمله ثم صنع أحداثه، طبيعة المواجهة حتّمت عليه إعتناق المقاومة كمذهب وعقيدة، ففرض نفسه رقماً صعباً في ذروة حرب كان بطلها ومحرّكها وضحيّتها.
عوامل عدة حملت بشير إلى المواجهة حتى النهاية، حتى النصر وحتى الإستشهاد، رغم ذلك بقي طليعياً، فهو صاحب أول إستراتيجية دفاعية للدولة اللبنانية وصاحب رؤية مستقبلية، وإلا ما كنا لنرى قادة مسيحيين ومسلمين يعودون في هذا الزمن إلى طروحاته وشعاراته لإنقاذ الكيان اللبناني، والحلّ: "لبنان أولاً".
لم يكن نبياً ولا فيلسوفاً بل صاحب خط وطني مقاوم بات يعرف بما يسمى "الخط البشيري"، قد تندم الأجيال التي لم تتعرف إلى شخصية بشير الفذة عن كثب، وقد تمضي أعوام عديدة قبل أن يأتي التاريخ بمثل هذا الرجل الذي كان أشبه بأسطورة لا تنسى من الوجدان ولا تمحى من التاريخ، لكن بعد إنجاز هذا الكتاب، ستجد الأجيال نفسها، في كل الأزمنة، وجهاً لوجه مع "تاريخ في رجل".
