وبفضل مساعدة إسرائيل السياسية، وما قام به الموساد والجيش الإسرائيلي، اللذان دربا رجاله، متن قوته العسكرية، وفتح باب أمل للسلام مع الدولة العبرية ولتوقيع اتفاقيات معها.
وبعد اعتراف واشنطن به طرفاً محاوراً، باشر محادثات مع الدول العربية وأقام تحالفاً سياسياً وعسكرياً مع أرييل شارون ورفائيل إيتان لطرد الفلسطينيين من لبنان.
انتخب رئيساً للجمهورية اللبنانية، ثم اغتيل بعد ثلاثة أسابيع.
يروي آلان مينارغ، مراسل الحرب الكبير لإذاعة فرنسا في العالم العربي والذي كان مقيماً في لبنان لفترة تناهز خمسة عشر عاماً.
